Silly kids these days….
So there’s this guy at work named Morgan who thinks we’re friends because we were hired the same day, we’re not friends, in fact I can’t stand him. He’s always saying silly things like “You’re way too smart, nobody needs to know all that, just stop.” Because as you all could probably guess I get rather long winded at times and when it is a subject that I like and can honestly go on forever. I don’t mind it when people call me smart, and I don’t mind if people are like “ok, we get the point shut up.” but for some reason it bugs the crap out of me when he says anything to me, especially when he says that, because he says it exactly the same every time. There’s a lot about Morgan that I just can’t even comprehend… Seriously, they just don’t even register to me. Coming from someone who saw a lot in High School being that there were several kids with BMW’s a couple Porches, and a guy with a 1969 Mustang fastback with a GT motor in it (valued at over $250k) I’m pretty used to being around rich spoiled somewhat naive kids… but I figured it stopped after High School, I mean ya gotta grow up sometime… don’t you?
A little background. One of the first things that kind of caught me off guard was when Morgan was talking about our paychecks after our first week, and how his mommy told him that he’s going to get everything back from taxes. Kind of seemed odd to me that the parents of this 18 year old boy (and yes I use the word boy for a reason) was still being claimed by his parents for taxes… My mom stopped claiming me when I got my first job at 16, but of course my parents have always been proactive about the whole “take care of yourself” aspect of life. Obviously after hearing this it came as no shock to me that Mommy and Daddy paid for Morgans car, as well as his car insurance, his tickets, and lawyer fees to get tickets removed from his record. I know plenty of people who’s parents paid for their cars, and that’s not a huge deal… in fact the car insurance isn’t either… but at 18 when you have a job car insurance is your own responsibility, and ESPECIALLY tickets… Personally I’ve only gotten one ticket before and it was because I wasn’t familiar with the area and had no clue it was a school zone, all I had to do was be honest with the cop and respectful he was nice enough to only give it for 5mph over even though I was doing 15 over because of the school zone… normally would of only been 5 over so he was cool about it… needless to say my fault, my responsibility. At 18 Morgan still has no concept of responsibility. The day I found out that Morgan does not pack his own lunches I almost had a conniption fit, it seriously blew my mind. Obviously coming from someone who’s been packing his own lunches since 4th grade I just didn’t even have a CLUE as to how to respond to that… Heck in high school I had to start paying for my own lunches… Anyways, this is a boy that I just don’t get, I’m pretty good about putting myself in other peoples shoes and seeing life from their perspective, but I just can’t do it with him.
Enough of the background… you obviously get that this boy has lived a sheltered life. There’s this other guy Chris at work that Morgan also thinks is his friend but Chris just barely tolerates him and then shakes his head out of disbelief as Morgan walks away usually. I work in the SI room which is just outside of the room Morgan and Chris work in so I don’t have to deal with that stuff very often. Well today Morgan walks over to Chris and says “dude have you ever gotten a yearbook from a foreign country?” Chris slowly turns around with some curiosity in his eyes “no… what country did you get one from?” Morgan replies with the wonder of a small child that cracked open a black rock down at the creek to find Geodes “Alaska!” Chris turns around in hopes that Morgan was joking. Morgan then says “have you ever had a yearbook from Alaska?” Chris replies this time without even facing Morgan “yeah dude.” “I thought you said you hadn’t ever had one from a foreign country” quickly snaps Morgan. “Dude, Alaska is a state. It is a part of the United States.” You know, I’ve said stupid things before such as mistaking Hong Kong for Tokyo and saying that Hong Kong was in Japan, or saying the country of Ontario… you know… we all say stupid things… but generally after being corrected by someone I stop, think, review the facts and above all STOP SAYING STUPID THINGS!!!!! But no, not Morgan he’s the unstoppable force of idiocity that works towards infecting us all with his ignorance. “No way!” exclaims Morgan “It’s gotta be like the fifty-sixth state or something like that!” “49th” calmly speaks Chris “Nuh uh, when’d that happen?” “I don’t know it was like the early sixties or something like that.” “No way, you’re just trying to trick me.”
When Aaron came and told us this story the entire SI room was rolling in laughter… after a few minutes I look at Aaron and am just like “nobody’s that stupid, come on…. well I guess it is Morgan… that’s just ridiculous” Maybe it’s just me, but I dislike stupid people with a passion… but that was funny, and you have to admit that stupid people do make us laugh, and give us inspiration to continue learning and achieving new things every day.
